Tangier Official Assaulted After Blocking Citizen from City Council Meeting
A caid, head of an administrative annex in Tangier, was slapped on Friday by a citizen after preventing the latter from forcibly accessing the room where the ordinary May session of the city council was being held.
The individual attempted to forcibly enter the room where the session was taking place. The caid intervened to dissuade him, but the man became angry and slapped the authority figure. Following this incident, which caused outrage among the authorities present in the room, the session was interrupted.
Municipal councilors and members of the Auxiliary Forces tried to calm the situation. The caid could initiate legal proceedings against the individual involved.
This incident occurs just a few weeks after another caid in the city of Temara was slapped by a woman in front of an administrative annex, sparking a heated controversy. Voices were raised to denounce the lack of respect for authority figures and the violence they have been subjected to for some time.
The recurrence of tensions between citizens and authority figures raises questions and reminds us of the need to strengthen the culture of dialogue and respect for institutions in order to ensure the proper functioning of public services and state authority.
