Tangier Official Arrested in Schengen Visa Fraud Investigation
Arrested, then placed in pre-trial detention in the women’s prison in Assilah for her alleged involvement in a fraud case concerning Schengen visas, a municipal councilor should appear at the end of August before the court of first instance in Tangier.
It all started with a complaint filed with the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office by a woman (M.M), residing in Azemmour. Back from Qatar, she needed a job contract in Spain, reports the daily Assabah. She then contacts a Tangier councilor. Her sister lives in Italy. Another individual lives in Tangier. The councilor provides M. M. with an administrative document attesting that she lives with her in Tangier. From then on, the address of the municipal councilor becomes hers. She thus helped the plaintiff to obtain a Schengen visa on behalf of the plaintiff. The administrative document, as well as other documents, audio recordings and money transfer operations led to the arrest of the councilor.
After her arrest, the accused was placed in pre-trial detention in the women’s prison in Assilah. She is being prosecuted on several counts, including fraud. She should appear at the end of August before the court of first instance in Tangier. As for the other individuals involved in this case, they are being prosecuted while on provisional release.
