Syrian and Kurdish Well-Drillers Boost Morocco's Cannabis Industry

Cannabis growers in northern Morocco, the region par excellence of cannabis cultivation, are calling on the expertise of Syrians and Kurds to carry out well drilling at reduced costs and within a reasonable time frame.

Groups of Syrians and Kurds are traveling through these regions to offer their services at promotional prices, reports the daily Assabah, which specifies that in less than five days, nearly 120 wells have already been drilled for an amount ranging between 12,000 and 20,000 dirhams. The work is carried out in very short deadlines and at very affordable prices, adds the daily, which underlines the importance of these wells for cannabis producers who, to improve their yield, have imported new types of seeds requiring large quantities of water.

Among these new imported cannabis varieties, the so-called "Khardala" is the most sought after, despite its high cost. According to the daily, it is sold at double the price of the local seed and produces 4 to 5 kilograms of cannabis resin per hectare compared to only 2 to 3 kilograms for the local seed.

These new well drillings will put an end to the practice of growers who, to meet their water needs, used to obtain it from the wadis, making it difficult to water the herds. But above all, they will allow these cannabis producers to prepare for the next stage of cannabis legalization.
