Swiss National’s Sentence Halved in Imlil Terrorism Case

The hearing of the main accused in the terrorist act of Imlil is reaching its fifth session. The Anti-Terrorism Chamber at the Court of Appeal of Salé decided to increase the sentence of the Swiss national, Nicolas Phenninger, to 5 years in prison instead of 10 years.
Prosecuted on three counts, including planning terrorist acts, apology for terrorism and failure to report the crime of the two Scandinavian tourists, he had been sentenced to 10 years in prison last July.
Aged 33 and known as Abdellah, Nicolas Phenninger was arrested in January 2019, in the vicinity of Témara. Being in contact with Kevin Zoller, the second Swiss accused in the same case, he had originally been convicted of forming a terrorist group.
For the record, Kevin Zoller had received a 20-year prison sentence. In total, 20 defendants had been sentenced to prison terms ranging from 5 years to the death penalty.
