Swiss Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Morocco Terrorism Case Linked to Scandinavian Murders

A 10-year prison sentence was handed down on Thursday by the Rabat court against a Swiss national prosecuted as part of the investigation into the murder of two Scandinavians in the Imlil region.
Residing for many years in the Rabat region with his wife and two children, Nicholas P. was facing serious charges from the Moroccan authorities, including "participation in a terrorist association, apology for terrorism and non-denunciation of crimes," reveals RTS.
According to the investigation conducted by the Moroccan police, the accused knew another Swiss national residing in Morocco, Kevin Z, who had been arrested a few days earlier by the police and now risks up to 30 years in prison. He is prosecuted, among other things, for "forming a gang with a view to preparing and committing terrorist acts seriously undermining the security of the State, premeditated assistance to perpetrators of terrorist acts, training of persons with a view to joining a terrorist organization and apology for terrorism".
The accused’s lawyer announced his intention to appeal the judgment. "All the charges were upheld even though the only piece of evidence is a police report written in Arabic that Nicholas does not speak," he told RTS.
To recall, the two tourists, the Dane Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, and the Norwegian Maren Ueland, 28, had been killed on December 17 by four individuals near Imlil, a mountainous area near Marrakech.
Since these murders, at least twenty people have been arrested as part of this investigation, including the Swiss nationals.
