Swiss Man’s Sentence Halved in Imlil Terror Case Appeal

While he had been sentenced last April to ten years in prison for his involvement in the terrorist act of Imlil, a Swiss citizen, to the general surprise, has benefited from a reduced sentence. Now, he will only serve five years behind bars for "forming a terrorist group".
The reduction of the sentence of the Swiss citizen, Nicolas P., was pronounced on Wednesday by the Appeals Chamber of the Anti-Terrorism Court of Salé. His lawyer, Khalil Idriss, explains this reduction of sentence by the fact that the conviction is "unfair and is not based on any proven fact".
For him, there is no tangible evidence that the Swiss is involved in this double murder apart from a few coincidences such as an email from one of the 24 men prosecuted or exchanges with other Swiss suspected in their country of links with Syria, according to the same source.
Nicolas P. is a 33-year-old computer technician. His arrest dates back to January 10 in Témara after the beheading of two young Scandinavian tourists in December 2018 in the Atlas mountains. The appeal trial of this case called the "Imlil murders" has been ongoing since August 27.
