Survey Reveals Moroccan Views on Racial Discrimination: Majority See No Issue

The Arab Barometer conducted a study on Moroccans’ perceptions of racial discrimination and anti-black discrimination. What do they think about it?
In total, 55% of Moroccans think that racial discrimination is not a problem in their country, reveals a recent survey by the Arab Barometer. In this group, we find the richest and most educated Moroccans. They are less likely to find that racial discrimination is a problem. One third of the most educated respondents believe that racial discrimination is a problem, compared to one in four of those with a high school diploma or less.
According to more than 60% of respondents, racial discrimination against sub-Saharan migrants is specifically a problem to a small, medium or large extent. In 2021, Morocco had 700,000 sub-Saharan migrants.
The survey also reveals that Morocco is in the process of transitioning from a transit country for those hoping to go to Europe to a country where migrants are willing to live and settle.
