Survey Reveals Demographic Trends of Moroccan Migrants: Young, Male, and Married

Moroccan migrants are mainly young married people, according to the preliminary results of the national survey on international migration carried out in 2018-2019 by the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
According to the survey covering a representative sample of 11,780 migrants, more than two-thirds are men (68.3%). The same source states that the proportion of women reached its highest level among the 30-39 age group (34.4%) and the lowest among those aged 60 and over (2.9%).
According to the same source, one migrant in four is between 15 and 29 years old (27%). As for women, they are relatively more numerous than men in this age group, with 32.8% and 24.4% respectively.
32.5% of migrants, or one third, are in the 30 to 39 age group, with almost equivalent shares between men (31.6%) and women (34.4%). In addition, the share of people aged 60 and over is 3.9%, 4.4% among men and 2.9% among women. These migrants, both men and women, were 25 years old at the time of their first emigration, it is indicated.
The same survey nevertheless reveals that seven out of ten migrants (72.7%) were single at the time of their first emigration and 26.2% were married. The average age at first marriage is 27 years, 28 years for men and 24 years for women, it is specified.
