Survey: Nearly Half of Moroccans Dissatisfied with Public Transportation, Especially in Major Cities

Nearly half of Moroccans say they are dissatisfied with public transport according to the results of a survey. From Rabat to Casablanca, as well as in the big cities, the sector does not seem to meet the expectations of users.
The ninth edition of the "Market Insights" survey reveals that 46% of Moroccans are dissatisfied with public transport and 41% of them live in the Central region (Casablanca, Rabat and Béni Mellal) including 20% in Casa-Settat, recalled the daily, stressing that this is a region that brings together the bulk of mobility, economic activities and workplaces, reports L’Economiste.

This survey carried out by Marketphone, a subsidiary of the Sunergia group, saw 52% of respondents express their disappointment, despite the heavy investments made in recent years by the government (expansion of the tramway network, renewal of the bus fleet...). According to the initiators, the results of the study correspond to the conception in most of the large Moroccan cities. Indeed, urban sprawl coupled with the lack of public transport have so far led to a race for car equipment. In Casablanca, car and public transport journeys are almost equivalent (respectively 12 and 13%, according to recent surveys).
The results of the survey correspond to the conclusions of the recent report on the new development model. "Despite the adoption and implementation since 2008 of a national urban mobility strategy, led by the Ministry of the Interior, most cities remain marked by the weakness of safe and affordable public transport means," this document points out.
