Survey: 81% of Moroccans Worried About COVID-19, 74% Doubt Hospital Readiness

As the number of cases of contamination increases, Moroccans are increasingly doubtful about the ability of the health system to effectively cope with the pandemic. The Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA) conducted a field study that clearly shows the extent of Moroccans’ concern.
The study was conducted on a sample of 2,470 people representing the Moroccan population aged 18 and over. According to MIPA, 81% of the Moroccan citizens surveyed expressed "concerns" about coronavirus infection, while 74% were "skeptical" about the ability of Moroccan hospitals to cope with the effects of the pandemic. Only 26% said they "have confidence" in the ability of Moroccan hospitals to treat patients with the virus and "put an end to its spread".
The other thing the study has the merit of revealing is that 96% of respondents are concerned about the spread of the virus in the country, while 90% are concerned about the impact of the pandemic on Moroccan economic activity. On the other hand, 97% of respondents say they are firmly "committed" to washing their hands several times a day. 82% are able to "respect" the public decision of home confinement, and only want to go out in case of necessity. And 58% "trust" the government’s efforts to stop the coronavirus epidemic.
Nevertheless, all 2,470 Moroccans surveyed agree with the "ban on large gatherings", as well as the "suspension of travel to and from Morocco".
On another related topic, 90% of the sample surveyed said they "agree" with the suspension of Friday prayers, as well as other days in mosques. 10% are therefore opposed to this last measure, and 99% are convinced that it was necessary to suspend classes.
