Survey: Moroccans Trust Royal Family Most, Confidence in Other Institutions Wanes

The monarchy, the family and national security are the most effective and reliable institutions in the eyes of Moroccans. This is the conclusion of a survey conducted by the Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (IMAP).
In society in general, the level of trust has been declining over the past decades. Even if the family represents the most credible social institution in the kingdom, the credit that Moroccans give it is declining when the family begins to include neighbors, colleagues, people never seen, people of other religions or other nationalities, or even their sexual orientations, according to the results of the study published by the Arabic-language website Hespress.com.
Regarding politics, Moroccans doubt the government’s ability to provide effective services, especially in the education, health, economic and anti-corruption sectors. Thus, nearly 31% of the respondents said they follow politics and political affairs, compared to 69% who are not interested, according to the same study. In addition, Moroccans have emphasized employment and health as the priority areas that the government should focus more on during the next decade.
However, the Parliament is considered the "least credible" political institution. The MPs interviewed by the surveyors indicated that the lack of confidence in this institution stems from the image given by the media, added to the "lack of institutional communication that makes citizens unaware of the real efforts made by their representatives in the examination of laws and in terms of legislation". Not to mention that some MPs are elected on the basis of "political loyalty and favoritism".
The abolition of parliamentary pensions and strengthening parliamentary communication could make this institution credible among citizens, the study estimated.
