Survey: Moroccans Trust Military and Police More Than Government

In Morocco, citizens have more confidence in the military institution and security institutions than in the government. This is revealed by a survey conducted by the Arab Barometer.
In total, 77% of Moroccans surveyed have "a lot or quite a lot of confidence in the armed forces," the report states, adding that the level of confidence is "slightly" higher among the wealthiest Moroccans, educated Moroccans and "non-Amazighs." About 72% of Moroccans also trust the police, it is further specified. This percentage is even much higher among people with a university education.
On the other hand, Moroccans have little confidence in the government. Less than "four out of ten Moroccans" trust the government, parliament and the Prime Minister, the study reveals, which also established a link between this decline in confidence in the government and the lack of confidence in the "electoral process in general."
39% of respondents believe that the last legislative elections (of September 2021) "were not free and fair." Only 20% said they had confidence in the election results. "Moroccans who cannot cover their expenses are about twice as likely to say the elections were not free and fair as wealthier citizens," the report notes.
