Survey: 90% of Moroccans Face Daily Incivility, Lack of Civic Behavior

If there’s one quality that Moroccans lack the most, it’s behaving in a civic manner. This is revealed by a survey conducted by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship (CMC).
Is incivility everywhere in Morocco? 44.4% of people surveyed as part of an exploratory study on civic behavior conducted by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship say they are dissatisfied with the behavior of Moroccans towards their neighbors. On the other hand, only 15.7% of respondents declared themselves satisfied. 39.9% consider the level of respect to be average. Regarding the level of civility of Moroccans in public spaces, particularly in terms of politeness and use of respectful language, 44.8% think it is average. 42.8% say they are dissatisfied while only 12.4% declare themselves satisfied.
Regarding nuisances from car guards, 87.7% of respondents say this phenomenon is very widespread or relatively widespread. In contrast, 8.3% describe it as limited. According to 3.0% of them, it is rare. Concerning respect for women in public spaces, 52.2% of respondents believe it is insufficient. On the opposite end, only 11.9% say they are satisfied. 36.0% consider the level of respect to be average. Moreover, 18.8% say they are dissatisfied with the way elderly people and people with disabilities are treated.
66.8% of respondents say green spaces are not respected. 27.0% believe the situation is average. Only 6.3% say they are satisfied. Furthermore, 69.8% say they are dissatisfied with the behavior of Moroccans regarding the preservation of public space equipment. 46.2% denounce the non-respect of queues, compared to 41.4% who judge the situation as average, and only 12.3% say they are satisfied; 60.7% think that indicated schedules are not respected. 60.9% of respondents denounce the non-respect of the Highway Code by motorists and pedestrians.
For 83.1% of respondents, fraud in commercial transactions is a common phenomenon. 93.2% consider that the occupation of public roads is a widespread and very widespread phenomenon. According to 92.2% of respondents, begging and exploitation of children are a very widespread or relatively widespread phenomenon. Moreover, 33.2% say they are dissatisfied with the degree of commitment of Moroccans to wear decent clothing in public spaces, while 53.5% are bothered by people speaking loudly in public spaces.
