Surge in Begging Across Morocco Raises Concerns Ahead of Eid al-Adha

In Morocco, the number of beggars is experiencing a worrying increase, just a few days before Eid al-Adha.
These beggars, often accompanied by children and babies, invade public places, especially the terraces of cafes and restaurants, disturbing the peace of Moroccans and tourists. Despite the adoption of laws against begging and the direct aid paid by the State to more than three million underprivileged families, the phenomenon persists in the kingdom.
A few days before the celebration of Eid al-Adha, these beggars continue to bother citizens and tourists, reports Al Akhbar, which denounces the laxity of the authorities in the face of this situation. The daily also alerts to a new phenomenon: begging on social networks, calling on the public authorities to take measures to eradicate this scourge that is damaging Morocco’s reputation before the 2030 World Cup it is organizing with Spain and Portugal.
