Study: 70% of Young Moroccans Seek to Emigrate Amid High Unemployment

Emigration has become the choice of seven out of ten young Moroccans, notably due to the problem of unemployment they face. This is revealed by a study conducted by the National Observatory of Human Development (ONDH) in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Seven out of ten young people are convinced that they would be happier if they went to Europe, where they can get economic opportunities. Morocco is therefore the country with the highest percentage of young people seeking to emigrate. This desire to go elsewhere is explained by the socio-economic problems, particularly unemployment, that they face.
In Morocco, this affects about 12% of the population but is much higher among young people (31%), university graduates (18.7%) and women in all age groups (16.5%).
Morocco is the gateway to Europe for migrants. Every year, many migrants from sub-Saharan Africa and young Moroccans seek to reach the old continent via Spain, only 20 kilometers from Morocco.
