Study Suggests Eyeglasses May Reduce COVID-19 Transmission Risk

Wearing eyeglasses could reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission. These are the findings of a study by Chinese researchers that has just been published.
Chinese researchers have found that wearing eyeglasses could reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission. The eyes could be a route of contamination. Thus, among a group of 276 hospitalized patients, those who wore eyeglasses for 8 hours a day were fewer in number than the total. Eyeglass wearers would therefore be less exposed to Covid-19.
However, it should be remembered that SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted through the eyes by contact with infected hands. However, wearing glasses prevents the hands from coming into contact with the eyes to a certain extent.
The study by Chinese researchers does have its limits. They therefore do not propose a generalization of wearing glasses. In addition, the study took place very early on and the statistics do not include data on hand washing or distancing.
