Study: One-Third of Moroccan Drivers Use Phones While Driving, Increasing Accident Risk

35% of Moroccan drivers risk their lives by using a mobile phone while driving. This is revealed by the Moroccan Barometer of Responsible Driving.
The results of the 2018 edition of the Moroccan Barometer of Responsible Driving reveal that these drivers manipulate their GPS or a navigation application while driving. They also indicate that 18% of these drivers send and/or read SMS or emails while driving. According to the authors of the survey, these user behaviors multiply the risks of accidents while driving.
In addition to these risks, the study also shows that speed is considered by Moroccan drivers as the main cause of fatal accidents on the roads, ahead of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (36%).
These causes are compounded by speed limits, with 56% of Moroccan drivers exceeding the speed limit by a few km/h. Inattention is also singled out as one of the main causes of fatal accidents on the roads, according to 27% of the Moroccan drivers surveyed.
Furthermore, napping during breaks is practiced by 92% of Moroccan drivers and 46% of them even change drivers during the trip, the same document points out.
