Study: Nearly 60% of Young Moroccans Consider Emigrating to Europe

Nearly 60% of Moroccans aged 18 to 29 are considering immigrating to Europe, reveals a recent study conducted by the Arab Barometer.
According to this study, the results of which were published on Friday, 35% of Moroccans in general are considering immigrating. In detail, 55% of young people plan to build their future outside the kingdom and 24% of older people express this desire. Men (45%) are the most numerous to consider this option compared to women (25%).
In terms of destinations, 26% of respondents prefer to immigrate to the United States, while 23% to France and Canada, 22% to Italy and Spain and 19% to Germany. According to the Arab Barometer, the economy remains the main cause and motivation for migration. The study indicates that 45% of respondents cited this reason.
On the other hand, 18% of the people surveyed cited the lack of opportunities to pursue their studies as the main reason for immigration. For others, it is rather corruption (15%), politics (13%) or for family reunification reasons (11%).
More than half of these potential migrants (53%) say they are willing to take the risk of immigrating without obtaining the necessary documents. The poorest (64%), men (62%) and the least educated (58%) are the most numerous to opt for this choice. The study also reveals that 40% of people in difficult situations are more inclined to immigrate, compared to 29% for people with a stable financial situation.
