Study: Most Moroccans Oppose Second COVID-19 Lockdown Despite Rising Cases

The majority of Moroccans say they cannot withstand a second lockdown. According to a study by the Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA), only 46% of citizens are ready to return to confinement if the country’s epidemiological situation requires it.
The study carried out by MIPA revealed that between March and July, Moroccans became less interested in the evolution of the epidemiological situation. Only 11% of respondents said they were concerned about it during the month of July, while they were close to 48% during the month of March. As for citizens who never follow news about the spread of the virus, they went from 1% in March to 14% in July 2020.
As for the role of the public media in communicating about the coronavirus pandemic, it remained stable. Between March and July, the rate of appreciation and satisfaction went from 66% in March to 70% in July. While in March, 58% of Moroccans said they trusted the government’s ability to manage the crisis related to the coronavirus pandemic, in July they were 61% to rely on the authorities’ judgment. The survey was conducted before the Eid Al Adha period and took into account 1,100 people aged 18 and over.
