Study: Majority of Young Moroccans Support Hijab Wearing, Citing Religious and Practical Reasons

61.2% of Moroccans are in favor of wearing the hijab, according to a study just published by the organization "Menassat for Social Research and Studies".
Of the 1,320 young Moroccans surveyed, 65.3% of women and 57.1% of men are in favor of wearing the hijab. According to the document, 62.5% of respondents believe that wearing the veil is a matter of the Muslim religion and around 38% consider that the veil is often worn for practical, personal and moral reasons, in particular to avoid harassment.

3.8% of the Moroccans surveyed say they are against wearing the hijab for reasons of equality between men and women. The study was conducted from May 17 to June 17, 2021 on a sample representing most of the regions of Morocco and various social categories.
