Strong Winds Force Flight Diversions Across Morocco’s Airports

Planes from the airline Air Arabia Maroc coming from London and Brussels had difficulty landing at Tanger Ibn Battuta airport before being finally diverted to Nador and Rabat.
The strong winds affecting Morocco in recent days are disrupting air traffic. Several planes, including two from Air Arabia Maroc, heading for Tanger Ibn Battuta airport, had to be diverted on Friday due to strong winds. The aircraft making the journey between London and Tanger had enormous difficulty landing at Tanger Ibn Battuta airport. The captain finally decided to land at Al Aroui airport in Nador. Another plane belonging to the same company from Brussels failed to land at Tanger airport. The plane’s commander had to change his trajectory. The aircraft was finally diverted to Rabat.
Recently, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) placed several provinces in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region on red alert (very heavy rains that could reach 130 mm). Thus, it forecast very heavy, locally thundery rains in the provinces of Chefchaouen, Tétouan, Al Hoceima, Tanger - Asilah, from 6 p.m. last Friday until midnight on Sunday. It also announced that very heavy, locally thundery rains (30 - 60 mm) and violent gusts of wind (75-95 km/h) with dust devils were expected from Friday to Sunday in several regions of the kingdom.
