Strong Winds Disrupt Flights at Major Moroccan Airports, Causing Diversions and Delays

Nine flights had to be diverted and 15 others delayed on Sunday at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca due to gusts of wind that hit several provinces of the kingdom.
Gusts of wind disrupted the activity of the airports of Casablanca and Tanger Ibn Battouta, said the National Airports Office (ONDA) in a statement, announcing that nine flights destined for Casablanca were diverted to Marrakech and Fez, while about fifteen others were delayed at Casablanca airport. "Shortly before 3 p.m., the situation calmed down and airport operations were restored at this airport," the note said.
The General Directorate of Meteorology issued a red and orange alert on Sunday for strong gusts of wind and dust in several provinces of the country, which could exceed 100 kilometers per hour. A situation that led to accidents on several roads, including the Casablanca-Marrakech highway.
Some social media posts report accidents on the road connecting Safi to Essaouira. The Moroccan Ministry of Equipment and Water has called on road users to be vigilant and advised them to postpone their trips until the weather conditions improve.
