Stranded Moroccan Workers Protest at Consulate in Algeria, Demand Repatriation and Aid

More than thirty Moroccans still stranded in Algeria expressed their anger on Sunday, May 31, in front of the Moroccan consulate in Oran. And for good reason.
The protesters are mostly seasonal workers from different wilayas in the west. The source of their outrage is two demands. They demand their repatriation to the kingdom and the financial assistance they were to receive from the Moroccan Consul General in Oran.
The protesters told the newspaper Le Soir d’Algérie that Morocco had decided to grant them financial assistance of 5,000 Algerian dinars per week, as they found themselves in precarious situations after the suspension of air traffic and the closure of borders. According to them, they did not receive this aid that the various consular representations, like the one in Oran, should have given them. The Moroccan consul did not go to meet these protesters.
On Saturday, 300 of the Moroccans stranded in Algeria were repatriated via three flights operated by Royal Air Maroc (RAM) planes. Other repatriation operations will be organized in the coming days.
