Stranded in Marrakech: Italian Tourists Face Nightmare as Ryanair Cancels Flight

While they arrived in Morocco to spend moments of relaxation, escape, and discovery, Italians see their vacation turn into a nightmare. They find themselves stranded in Marrakech due to the cancellation of their return flight.

While they were supposed to return to Bergamo airport in Italy on a Ryanair flight, eight citizens from the town of San Daniele del Friuli had to spend long hours inside the aircraft without taking off, in stifling heat, without ventilation, and without any explanation from the crew. After more than three hours of waiting, passengers were asked to disembark, but they were not allowed to stay inside the airport, and were then surprised by the cancellation of the flight without a new date being communicated, reports the Italian press.

This situation caused a state of chaos and confusion among passengers. Subsequently, the display screens indicated that the flight had been definitively cancelled. Some other flights were resuming normally. The flight cancellation is due to the vast power outage that hit Spain, Portugal, and parts of France on April 28. This outage caused a temporary paralysis of air traffic, including flights departing from Marrakech airport.

After the flight cancellation, passengers were transferred to a nearby hotel. They were promised a new reservation for a flight the next day. A promise that would not be kept. The two families received a notification indicating that the nearest alternative flight would be on May 6, a full week after the initial flight date. Without alternatives, some passengers had to turn to the Italian consulate.

Others decided to act individually. They managed to book a new flight at their own expense for May 1, with a stopover in London and a total duration of 24 hours, including additional nights at the hotel that they had to pay for themselves. Arriving in Italy, they deplored the way Ryanair handled the crisis during their vacation, which had, according to them, turned into "a grueling and inhumane experience"
