Stone-Throwing Incidents Plague Morocco’s Casablanca-Rabat Highway, Endangering Motorists

Many motorists were hit by stones on Sunday evening between Mohammedia and Bouznika, on the Casablanca-Rabat highway. Individuals have taken it upon themselves to sow disorder and disturb the peace of road users.
According to Article19.ma, no information has yet been given on the identity of these delinquents whose actions have endangered the lives of several road users.
Unfortunately, cases of stone throwing are quite frequent in Morocco, where there are many victims. A few months ago, the pasha of Sidi Bernoussi, in Casablanca, was a victim on the highway, causing his death. This was also the case two years ago for the former Interior Minister Mohand Laenser, who was the victim of stone throwing while traveling with his driver on the Tangier highway. He was injured and taken to the hospital, while his vehicle was damaged.
Despite the severity of Moroccan courts, such as the death sentence for the perpetrators of stone throwing that led to the death of a family nearly 3 years ago (the parents and a little girl), such acts continue.
To try to end the carnage, the Moroccan Motorways Company announced last year the installation of surveillance cameras in sensitive areas such as bridges. Nets had also been considered by the authorities but no date has been given for their implementation.
Update: This information has been denied by the Moroccan Motorways Company (Autoroutes du Maroc).
