Stellantis to Shift Citroën C4 Production from Spain to Morocco by 2027

Morocco aims to double its vehicle production capacity. It will be able to count on Stellantis, which plans to relocate the production of the Citroën C4 and C4 X models, currently carried out in Spain, to its plant in Kénitra.

According to the French media L’argus, Stellantis will cease production of the Citroën C4 and C4 X models at its Villaverde plant in Madrid as of 2027. From this deadline, its plant in Kénitra, Morocco will begin producing these models. But in the meantime, the Villaverde plant will continue to produce the new-style C4, recently presented at the Paris Motor Show.

More than 105,000 units of this model were produced last year, and already nearly 90,000 units this year. With 1.8 million units produced each year, Stellantis is the second largest car manufacturer in Europe. The group has already announced its intention to increase the production capacity of its Kénitra plant, currently 200,000 vehicles to 450,000 units per year.

The new C4 will be added to the Citroën Ami, the Opel Rocks, the Fiat Topolino and the Peugeot 208, manufactured in Morocco. This will allow the kingdom to achieve its goal of increasing from 700,000 cars produced per year to more than 1 million units by 2027.
