Start of Ramadan in Morocco: decision this Sunday

Moroccans will be informed this Sunday, March 10 about the start and end of Ramadan. When does the holy month begin in Morocco?
According to astronomical calculations based on precise scientific rules, Ramadan will begin on Tuesday, March 12 in Morocco. But it is the Night of Doubt during which the sky is observed that allows to confirm the beginning and end of the fasting month for Muslims. If the observation of the crescent moon is confirmed this Sunday evening, Monday, March 11 will mark the beginning of the holy month. According to experts, Moroccans will observe a 29-day fast this year. Countries like Saudi Arabia will start fasting on March 11.
Ramadan is a period of prayer and fasting, which is one of the pillars of Islam. Throughout its duration, believers - with the exception of the most fragile people - must abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and having sexual relations from sunrise to sunset. Exceptions exist for children who have not reached puberty, pregnant women, the sick or the elderly. In Morocco, Tarawih prayers are organized every evening in mosques during the holy month.
