Spanish PM Sánchez's Luxury Morocco Vacation Sparks Controversy

The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, continues his vacation in Morocco. After Marrakech, the official visited Tangier where he stayed with his family at the luxurious Le Mirage hotel for a night at 1,500 euros.

Pedro Sánchez, his wife and their two daughters, aged 18 and 16, are on vacation in Morocco. The Spanish government president and his family arrived on Tuesday in Marrakech on a commercial flight and visited the famous Jemaa El-Fna square in the ochre city. After Marrakech, Sanchez and his family went to Tangier on Thursday where they stayed at the luxurious Le Mirage hotel, located in Achakar, near the Hercules Caves, which offers suites for 1,500 euros per night. They also plan to visit Tetouan, only 15 kilometers from the royal residence of M’diq where King Mohammed VI spends his summer vacation.

If Sanchez’s trip is "strictly private" and "fully paid out of his own pocket", as the Moncloa has pointed out, the travel and accommodation of his escort and family is nevertheless paid for by the State, reports Vozpópuli, specifying that a minimum of 12 people accompany the head of the Spanish Executive on this journey and are expected to receive mission expenses of around 1,950 euros, to which should be added other expenses such as plane tickets.

The destination of Morocco chosen by Pedro Sánchez for his summer vacation has not failed to stir up controversy in Spain. For the leaders of the Popular Party (PP), it is a "provocation".
