Spanish Police Arrest Moroccan Businessman for Exploiting Migrant Workers in Alicante

The National Police arrested in Alicante a 45-year-old Moroccan businessman for having exploited workers, including irregular migrants.
The defendant took advantage of the vulnerable situation of these migrants to exploit them, forcing them to carry on their backs bundles of used clothes of about 80 kilos for a weekly remuneration of 200 euros that they did not receive in case of rest. In order not to lose the day, they were forced to take painkillers against back and knee pain in order to be able to work.
The investigation carried out by the agents of the Unit for the Fight against Clandestine Immigration Networks and Document Forgeries of the Provincial Immigration and Border Brigade of Alicante, in collaboration with the Labor Inspection, confirmed that the Moroccan businessman’s company was exploiting foreign citizens without a contract. In total, 6 workers were identified, including 5 irregular migrants.
These workers were exploited, in violation of the labor regulations in force. They worked long hours without rest. Accused of an offense against workers’ rights, the Moroccan was released after being heard by the justice system. He was placed under judicial supervision.
