Spanish-Moroccan Runner Majida Maayouf Shatters Spanish Marathon Record in Valencia

Spanish athlete of Moroccan origin, Majida Maayouf, has just set a new Spanish record in the marathon in Valencia, with a time of 2 hours 21 minutes and 27 seconds.
This record, almost five minutes faster than Marta Galimany’s 2022 record, represents a step in her career and brings Maayouf closer to participating in the Paris Olympics for Spain. Moved to tears upon her victory, Maayouf expressed her satisfaction and gratitude, despite the fatigue.
Resident in Salvatierra (Basque Country) for more than a decade, Maayouf, who only obtained Spanish nationality last June, attributed part of her success to the ideal climatic conditions, which corresponded to her training. This mastery of her environment and physical condition played a key role in her performance.
During the race, Maayouf became aware of her advantage over her Spanish competitors, especially after overcoming a physical problem between the 15th and 17th kilometers. Her determination allowed her to maintain a lead, finishing the first half of the race in 1:10:36. This lead was crucial in her race strategy, allowing her to manage her effort and conserve her energy until the end of the course.
