Spanish Marathoner Heroically Responds to Serious Road Accident After Training

Houssame Benabbou, a Spanish marathoner of Moroccan origin, has recently experienced an experience he will remember for the rest of his life.

In a message posted on Instagram, he recounts having been involved in a serious road accident. As he was returning from training at the Spanish Olympic Committee in Madrid, he found himself facing a damaged vehicle in the middle of the road. Despite the difficult conditions, with reduced visibility due to the rain, he managed to narrowly avoid the parked car, but the collision could not be avoided.

This long-distance runner, known for his performances at the national and international level, showed remarkable courage. After avoiding the initial accident, he discovered a young man trapped in the other vehicle. Without hesitation, Benabbou rushed to help him. His heroic act did not stop there: as he was helping the victim, another car collided with the damaged vehicle, causing new injuries. Despite the confusion and danger, the athlete remained on the spot to help, following the instructions of the emergency services he had just called.

Benabbou, born in Oujda in 1993 and raised in Extremadura (southwest Spain), has made a name for himself in athletics. He shone in the half marathon in 2018 and achieved a very good time in the Valencia Marathon in 2019, allowing him to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Despite his performances, he was not selected, leaving his place to other Spanish athletes.

The accident left physical consequences for Benabbou, who ended up in the hospital with a knee fracture. Despite this traumatic episode, he remains positive and expresses his gratitude for life. His message ends on a note of hope from a man who narrowly escaped death.
