Spanish PM Faces Angry Protests During First Visit to Ceuta Amid Migration Crisis

On a visit this Tuesday, for the first time to Ceuta, the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, was greeted upon his arrival with numerous boos and insults from the residents.

As he arrived by helicopter in the early afternoon, the Spanish Prime Minister was greeted with boos and insults from residents outraged by the migration crisis. Some of them stormed the official car in which the president was traveling to the Palace of the Assembly to meet Juan Vivas, the president of the city. Sanchez also met the government delegate and Minister Marlaska in Ceuta on this occasion.

Before the arrival of the President of the Spanish Government, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, had also suffered the same fate from about twenty individuals who rushed to the doors of his helicopter. The Minister of the Interior was then received by the government delegate, Salvador Mateos.

The national police elements had difficulty restoring order given the tension generated in the enclave by the management of the migration crisis by the executive. No statement was made by the two authorities at the end of this rather eventful visit to Ceuta.
