Spanish Engineering Giant Exits Morocco: Grupo Mecanica Del Vuelo Shuts Casablanca Operations After 11 Years

Present in Casablanca since 2014, a Spanish group providing R&D and industrial engineering services has just ended its activities.
In Morocco, the Spanish engineering firm Grupo Mecanica Del Vuelo Sistemas has decided to close its doors, after providing R&D and industrial engineering services for eleven years. It has just put its Casablanca branch into liquidation, thus renouncing its only foothold in Africa. The group has not, for the time being, communicated on the reasons for this departure. This departure may be linked to its inability to make its business sustainable in Morocco or to transform itself into a nearshore production platform for the global clients of its parent company, like other European engineering firms such as the German FEV Group whose Moroccan subsidiary has exceeded the 150-employee mark in a few years, according to Challenge.
Created in 1984 by Professor Juan José Martínez García, Grupo Mecanica Del Vuelo Sistemas offers services in various sectors, such as aeronautics, automotive, cybersecurity, defense and security, space, health, intelligent transport and digitized public services. This group based in Tres Cantos, a peaceful town north of Madrid, is also present in Latin America and Europe where it continues to develop. Last year, it acquired its compatriot Autek, a specialist in cybersecurity solutions. Its turnover reaches 50 million euros (more than 500 million dirhams), of which more than three-quarters outside its domestic market and through a dozen direct subsidiaries.
