New Spanish Citizenship Rules Require Moroccans to Renounce Original Nationality

As part of the new naturalization measures imposed by the courts in Barcelona, the certificate of renunciation of Moroccan nationality, certified by the Consulate of the Kingdom, has become mandatory and threatens hundreds of thousands of Moroccans in the region.
According to Akhbarona, the provision, implemented by a judge of the Civil Registry in order to accelerate the application of this law, is part of a series of measures put in place for the acquisition of Spanish nationality.
Henceforth, whether by naturalization, residence or personal choice, the application for nationality implies the taking of an oath, the commitment of loyalty to the King, respect for the Constitution and the renunciation of the country of origin, knowing that this measure does not apply to other foreign nationals.
Moroccan citizens living in Spain fear that the new provision will be generalized to all Spanish provinces, and are questioning the attitude of the Moroccan diplomatic authorities, knowing that, according to rumors, the various European right-wing parties could consult each other with a view to submitting the new law to the European Parliament.
