Spain Reaffirms Commitment to Ceuta and Melilla’s Territorial Integrity

The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, reassured deputies in Congress that the territorial integrity of Spain and Ceuta and Melilla is "fully guaranteed" by the government.
"The territorial integrity of every inch of Spanish territory and, of course, of Ceuta and Melilla, is fully guaranteed by the government, even if it is not mentioned in any document," Minister Albares said on Wednesday, stressing that the government will defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Spain "against anyone and in all circumstances."

Regarding the Sahara, the head of Spanish diplomacy reiterated the government’s position of supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan, recalling that Pedro Sanchez, in his letter to Mohammed VI dated March 14, specified that Spain is advocating for a "mutually acceptable solution and within the framework of the United Nations."

The minister hopes that the organization of the next NATO summit in Madrid on June 23 and 30 will mark the beginning of a "guarantee of the European order" to prevent a global food crisis. "To guarantee the well-being of so many regions of the planet, we need a successful summit and Spain will work on it...," he said.
