Spain Maintains Natural Gas Supply to Morocco, May Increase Deliveries

Spain guarantees Morocco’s supply of natural gas despite the high demand due to the international situation and the approach of winter.

According to the official sources cited by the Spanish website Libre Mercado, Madrid has maintained the flow of natural gas to Rabat in recent months, indicating the possibility of increasing future deliveries in the coming months.

More specifically, Spain was sending 0.5 gigawatts per hour of gas to Morocco every day, the media reports, noting that the quantity was increased to 1 gigawatt per hour of gas on the second day of August, before increasing even more a few days later.

In a recent statement, the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, reiterated his commitment to guaranteeing Morocco’s supply of natural gas during the winter season, despite the high demand and concern throughout Europe.

To this end, the Spanish media mentioned the threats of Algeria towards Spain to reduce its natural gas supply if it continued to supply Morocco, due to the new position of the Spanish government on the Sahara issue. Threats that have already been carried out, as reductions have recently been recorded in natural gas deliveries imported from Algeria to Spain.
