The Vox parliamentary group presented a non-legislative proposal (PNL) this Friday to the Valencian Cortes to ban meals prepared in accordance with Islamic rites from public institutions. According to deputy Julia Llopis, it is imperative that foreigners residing in Spain “adapt to and respect the customs and traditions of the country that welcomes them” rather than seeking to impose their own standards.

This initiative directly opposes the draft royal decree backed by the Ministry of Social Rights, which provides for the inclusion of religious and cultural diversity criteria in collective catering. Vox denounces an “innocuous concession” that could, according to the party, threaten coexistence and women’s rights, citing Ceuta as a warning against a possible “single option.”

Beyond the religious dimension, the text defended by Santiago Abascal’s party calls for “explicit and determined” support for Spanish products. Vox urges public administrations to encourage local consumption to counter what it describes as foreign unfair competition, while denouncing pressure from supranational institutions that allegedly penalize domestic farmers.

For Julia Llopis, introducing halal food into public services is merely the prelude to imposing other customs that the party firmly rejects.
