Spain’s Global Image Shines, but Falters in Morocco

Spain enjoys a positive image internationally, mainly thanks to its tourist appeal and gastronomy. However, Morocco stands out with a more negative perception of the country.
A study conducted with 4,400 people from various countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the United States and Japan, reveals that Spain enjoys a good reputation worldwide. With an average score of 7.1 out of 10, the country is particularly seductive for its dynamic tourism sector and renowned gastronomy.
The respondents spontaneously associate Spain with iconic elements such as the sun, bullfights, football and flamenco. In Morocco, the Islamic heritage and the influence of Al-Andalus are also mentioned.
The study highlights a significant decline in the association between Spain and the economic crisis. Similarly, corruption, a sensitive issue at the national level, seems to have a limited impact on the perception of the country abroad. 73% of respondents consider Spain to be an honest country, compared to only 22% who associate it with corruption.
Morocco stands out by displaying the most negative opinion of Spain. More than 30% of Moroccan respondents describe it as "conflictual", "selfish" and "intolerant", while nearly 25% of them say that Spain "does not inspire confidence".
