Spain Boosts Morocco’s Border Control with €2.5 Million Equipment Deal

Spain has decided to provide Morocco with additional resources to strengthen its border surveillance and fight against illegal immigration capabilities.
The government of Pedro Sánchez has approved an envelope of 2.5 million euros for the acquisition of vehicles and equipment: 183 motorcycles worth a total of 660,000 euros, intended for patrol operations in hard-to-reach areas, and 33 buggies, for an amount of 1.9 million euros, for enhanced mobility in desert and rugged environments, report Spanish media. Delivery is scheduled within a maximum of nine months. Once delivered, the vehicles will be shipped to the port of Tanger Med. In addition, specialized technical training will be provided on vehicle maintenance to ensure the maintenance and operational durability of the equipment provided.
This action is part of a European project for the integrated management of borders and migration in Morocco, coordinated by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares. It aims to "reduce vulnerabilities related to irregular migration" and to "strengthen border control and surveillance capabilities" by adopting an approach described as humanistic, aligned with the Moroccan National Immigration and Asylum Strategy (SNIA), according to the Spanish government.
