South Korea Eyes $3.6 Billion Moroccan High-Speed Rail Contract

The South Korean government has expressed a desire for the participation of companies from its country in the $3.6 billion tender launched by Morocco for the acquisition of high-speed trains and the renewal of its train fleet.
South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Park Sang-woo, made this request during his visit to Morocco on Friday, where he met with his Moroccan counterpart of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and the Director General of the National Railway Office, Mohamed Rabie Khlie. The strengthening of cooperation in the railway sector was on the agenda of the discussions. The South Korean minister took this opportunity to request the participation of Korean companies in Morocco’s tender for the purchase of TGVs and trains.
"We welcome the participation of Korean companies in the Moroccan rail project," responded Mohamed Abdeljalil. Morocco has recently launched this tender for the acquisition of 904 trains worth a total of €3.52 billion in order to renew its train fleet in preparation for the 2030 World Cup, which it will host jointly with Spain and Portugal. The deadline for submitting bids is set for July 9. The Spanish companies Talgo and CAF, the French Alstom and the Chinese CRRC have already expressed interest in the project.
