Son of Former Moroccan Minister Deported from US After Domestic Violence Arrest

Detained since last February in a Colorado prison in the United States for acts of domestic violence, the son of former Interior Minister Driss Basri was the subject of an expulsion measure.

Domestic disputes have multiplied within the couple since their arrival in the United States in May 2019. The 27-year-old young mother did not accept the political asylum application filed by her husband, Khalid Basri, in New York, writes Assabah.

In fact, she refused the idea of leaving her family in Morocco and living a life of political refugee in a country where the language was foreign to her, she told the American media Aspen Daily News, stressing that she had nothing to reproach herself for in Morocco.

But it was without counting on the determination of her spouse who, in addition to the physical and psychological violence he inflicted on her, prevented her, according to the same source, from integrating by taking English lessons.

Khalid Basri was finally denounced by a cousin of the victim. For the moment, the family is in the Netherlands, waiting to be able to return to Morocco after the borders are reopened.
