Shocking 37,000 Euro Phone Bill Slashed: Orange’s ’Exceptional Gesture’ for Loyal Customer
The misadventure of a merchant from Yvelines, who had received a bill of 37,737 euros from Orange for mobile data used in Morocco, has come to an end. The operator has agreed to reduce the amount to 500 euros, describing its decision as an "exceptional gesture".
The dispute was over data consumption during a one-week stay last April. The customer, who denied such excessive use, had mentioned the possibility of hacking or a technical malfunction, noting data rates of 250 euros every two minutes in the middle of the night.
For its part, Orange has refuted any technical anomaly. The operator claimed to have alerted its customer several times by SMS of the overrun of his package and to have the trace of a package extension subscribed by the subscriber himself.
The outcome is ultimately favorable to the merchant. In addition to the reduction of his bill, his telephone and internet lines, which had been suspended, have been restored. Orange justifies this decision by the longevity of this customer, loyal for 38 years and whose payment history is impeccable.
