Moroccan Fugitive Sentenced: 3 Years for Daring Prison Break and Cross-Border Escape

The French justice system has sentenced a Moroccan in absentia to a three-year prison term, this Wednesday, September 10, and has issued an arrest warrant against him. This decision comes after an escape that occurred on July 28, 2023.
The inmate, Jalal Nemma, had not returned to the Moulins prison after being granted a day release to attend a training session.
Following his escape, he had contacted a young woman he had met online, with whom he had lunch before being driven to Lyon. He then disappeared, no longer giving any news except for insults and a single phone call during which he claimed to be in Morocco.
This conviction for escape adds to a criminal record that already includes sentences for aggravated theft, receiving stolen goods, criminal conspiracy, and organized gang violence in the context of drug trafficking.
