Sheep Prices Drop 10% for Aid Al Adha as Supply Reaches 8.5 Million

The Interprofessional Federation of Red Meats (FIVIAR) stated that the supply of livestock intended for slaughter for Aid Al Adha is "estimated at 8.5 million heads" as in 2019. Sheep prices will likely see a 10% drop compared to last year.

The entire herd has not yet been identified. The National Sheep and Goat Association (ANOC) told Medias24 that "3.2 million heads have been identified by its teams, the objective being to reach 3.7 million in the next 10 days". 250 association technicians are at work. According to the National Office of Food Safety, 6 million heads have been identified as of Friday, June 26.

ANOC said the commission responsible for setting prices for Aid has not yet met. "Even the sellers or breeders who have signed contracts with large retailers, such as Marjane, have not yet discussed prices," it is specified.

For its part, FIVIAR talks of "a 10% drop in prices compared to last year". In 2019, prices ranged between 47 and 52 DH per kg. "The purchasing power that will be relatively weak this year, following the covid-19 crisis" would lead to this drop, it is added.

Pending the setting of prices, platforms for online livestock sales are being prepared. The sale will start 10 days before Aid Al Adha.
