Sexual Assault Video in Tangier Sparks Outrage, Reveals Morocco’s Social Crisis
Reacting to the sexual assault filmed in Tangier, Yassine Amnay, psychologist and researcher in social psychology, believes that Morocco is going through a deep crisis of values.
On Sunday, the Tangier police elements arrested a 13-year-old minor involved in a collective sexual assault filmed and posted on social media. The teenager is suspected of having, in the company of other people, sexually assaulted and harassed a woman on the street in Tangier. The scene provoked the indignation of many Moroccan internet users.
In a statement to Al3omk, Yassine Amnay points to a reprehensible behavior resulting from a combination of interdependent factors, going beyond the simple nature of an isolated incident, to reveal a deep moral crisis affecting Moroccan society. Stressing that moral decay and the erosion of societal values constitute the foundation of this type of behavior, he notes that the erroneous perception of women, reduced to a mere object of sexual gratification, largely contributes to the trivialization of such acts.
