Severe Drought to Leave 54 Moroccan Cities Without Water This Summer

54 Moroccan cities and villages will be affected by a terrible drought next summer, which will result in a lack of drinking water, according to forecasts from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).
Speaking before the House of Representatives, the CEO of ONEE indicated that more than fifty cities will have difficulties in water supply. For example, the official cited the cities of Marrakech and Oujda, where water supply is under delegated management.
The city of Oujda has already been experiencing low flow in some high areas for a few weeks, adding that during the summer, the number of cities and villages experiencing deficits will increase and reach 54.
In addition, the office assured that the 762 cities and villages under its responsibility are currently supplied with drinking water on a regular basis, with the exception of 26 villages (i.e. 150,974 people) who are experiencing disruptions in their supply.
