Seven Children Hospitalized After Mass Circumcision Event in Morocco’s Chefchaouen

From 5, the number of child victims of complications after the collective circumcision in the city of Chefchaouen has risen to 7. The investigation opened on this case is ongoing.
Two children were admitted last week to the pediatric surgery department of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Tangier, where the first five children had been transferred, sources tell Hespress. The parents of the two children transported them to the hospital after they presented serious complications and infections following the collective circumcision organized at the end of September by a local association for the benefit of 45 children from underprivileged families.
Of the first five children taken care of in this hospital, two were able to return home last week, the same sources inform, specifying that the three others should also join their respective homes, at the end of the treatment of the infections caused by the circumcision. As for the two new cases, they will receive the necessary care and will be able to leave the hospital once their treatment is completed.
Are the children out of danger as to the integrity of their genitals? "After three months, the situation should become clearer, and it will be possible to determine whether surgical intervention is necessary or if the children will heal naturally," explains a medical source, expressing the hope that the children will respond quickly and positively to the treatment.
The public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into this case, at the request of the Al Karama association for the defense of human rights, which revealed the case. For their part, the families of the victims are considering taking legal action against those responsible for the "aggression against the children". "We will not give up the rights of our children," said the father of a victim.
