Senior Moroccan Prosecutor Charged with Espionage and Corruption in High-Profile Case

Involved in cases of foreign intelligence, corruption, and personal vendettas, a deputy prosecutor general of the king at the Fez Court of Appeal faces justice.
It all started with an investigation conducted by the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) into a case of blackmail and defamation targeting high-ranking officials and public figures. The BNPJ discovers that a deputy prosecutor general of the king at the Fez Court of Appeal is among those who transmitted information about Moroccan officials to the owner of a website based in Italy, with the aim of targeting them and damaging their reputation, reports Assabah. The latter is a Moroccan living abroad, currently detained in an Italian prison. Investigators came to this conclusion after questioning several suspects and conducting a technical analysis of several anonymous messages received by the website owner, one of which was handwritten by the magistrate.
Besides the accusation of foreign intelligence, the magistrate is also accused of corruption in judicial affairs. He appeared in a video in an abnormal state, where he admits to having received bribes and accuses other judges of corruption in various cases. This video was allegedly filmed without his knowledge by a former close associate, owner of bars and nightclubs, with whom the magistrate once had a close relationship. Investigators learn that the two men regularly shared festive evenings in Fez or in a tourist city in northern Morocco.
On Thursday, the magistrate appeared before the prosecutor general of the king at the Rabat Court of Appeal to be heard on these accusations.
