Senegalese Travelers Stranded in Morocco as Borders Close Amid Coronavirus Crisis

There are about a hundred Senegalese currently stranded in Morocco, more precisely in Dakhla, due to the closure of borders. They are calling on the Senegalese authorities to work for their repatriation.
Mor Kane Dramé is one of these many Senegalese stuck in Morocco. He called Dakaractu to discuss their living conditions. According to him, they had reached the Moroccan-Mauritanian border on March 12. But to their surprise, Mauritania had closed its borders because of the coronavirus. The Moroccan security forces had then asked them to leave the border post. They had no choice but to settle in Dakhla where they first spent the night in their vehicles.
"It was later that the Moroccans housed us in a hostel. But still, all the security conditions are not met for us to stay here," says Dramé. He and the 89 other nationals blocked in Morocco only want one thing: to return to Senegal. They call on the authorities of the country to organize their repatriation.
"We were here with other nationalities; but they have all been repatriated by their countries. We are the only ones whose fate does not seem to concern their country," laments Mor Kane Dramé.
