Senate Blocks Inquiry into PM Sanchez’s Role in Deadly Melilla Border Incident

The Senate Bureau has rejected the request of Senator Compromís, Carles Mulet, for the appearance of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to explain the tragedy that occurred at the end of June in Melilla.
In his request filed on June 26, just two days after the Melilla assault that left at least 23 migrants dead, Carles Mulet deplored these events, stressing that it was an "unacceptable massacre" and that "responsibilities must be identified".
But the Senate Bureau did not grant his request to see President Pedro Sanchez appear on this issue, simply because the Senate’s rules of procedure do not provide for the appearance of the government before the plenary session.
The senator assures that his party will continue to demand explanations on what happened in Melilla. "This was just a first step, but there is a battery of written questions and we are not going to let this serious matter become a minor incident," he said.
